Frequently Asked Questions

Farm Succession Planning can feel overwhelming—but it doesn’t have to be. Here are a few common questions we hear (and how we help).

1. What if my family’s not on the same page yet?

Great question. I actually worked with a family down in Chillicothe—three siblings, four opinions, and one Thanksgiving where someone almost threw a dinner roll. Truth is, most families aren’t totally aligned at first. That’s normal. My job isn’t to force anyone into a decision, it’s to help start the right conversations and walk through them with grace.

We take it one step at a time, together.

2. Our farm operation is pretty complex. Can you handle something like this?

Absolutely. The bigger the operation, the more important it is to plan well.
I’ve worked with families who own thousands of acres, manage multiple LLCs, and have heirs in three different states. It can feel like a tangled mess—but that’s where good farm succession planning makes all the difference. We’ll untangle it, simplify it, and build a plan that fits both the business and the people behind it.

3. How do we even start this conversation with our kids or parents?

You’re not alone. It’s one of the biggest hurdles families face. Sometimes it starts with a simple question:

“What do you hope this farm looks like in 10 years?”
Or:
“What would Grandpa want us to do?”

The goal isn’t to solve everything in one sitting—it’s just to start.

4. What happens if we don’t make a plan?

Honestly? Nothing... until something happens. Then things get messy. Fast.
I’ve seen families split over assumptions and silence. That’s why succession planning matters. It protects your land, your legacy, and your relationships.

The best time to plan was five years ago. The second-best time? Now.

5. I’m an attorney/CPA—can I refer clients to you?

Yes—please do. We often partner with professionals like you who are looking for values-aligned, relationship-focused support for their clients.

Whether your client needs farm succession planning, family mediation, or legacy coaching, we’ll complement your expertise with hands-on, grace-filled facilitation.
